It’s Cinco de Mayo! Let the taco-eating begin!
What is Cinco de Mayo all about?
Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The battle occurred when a poorly equipped and outnumbered Mexican army successfully defended the city of Puebla against a larger and better-equipped French army. The victory was significant because it demonstrated that Mexico was capable of defending itself against a European power.
The Battle of Puebla became a symbol of Mexican resistance and national pride. Cinco de Mayo is primarily has become a popular holiday in the United States, where it is often associated with Mexican-American culture and heritage.
And tacos!
Tacos are one of America’s favorite foods. In fact, Americans consumed 4.5 billion tacos in 2018 alone. I guess I’m not alone in my taco appreciation!
